Product FAQ

• Why is there a burning smell?

Check to see if the belt is broken, or if the cord or something else is caught under the vacuum.

• The dirt's not going into the bag or dust cup. How do I fix this?

If your vacuum has a detachable hose, make sure it’s firmly connected. Make sure the hose is emptying the dirt into the bag or the dust cup. On bagged models, the hose needs to protrude into the bag. If these connections look right, then check the hose for a clog or obstruction.

• What's causing my vacuum to get noisier?

A broken fan blade, a broken belt or an obstruction in the brush roll are the most common reasons for increased noise.

• When does the filter need to be replaced?

It varies, depending on your model's filtration type. Micron Filtration is not a separate filter, but is part of the bag itself. So, if you change bags monthly and use Electrolux brand bags, your filtration should remain powerful. True HEPA filters should be replaced every six months to maintain peak filtration. The small fabric filters that cover the back of the bagless cassette and the entrance into the casing beneath the cassette can be rinsed out, dried thoroughly and put back into place. They should be replaced after a year. Washable HEPA filters should be cleaned out approximately every eight weeks. Always make sure that washable filters are completely dry before you put them back in the vacuum.

• When should I replace the belt?

Check the brushroll belt periodically for signs of wear. Typically, it should be replaced every six months. Refer to your Owner’s Guide for detailed replacement instructions.

• Why do I need to change the belts on my vacuum?

Belts are made of rubber and will stretch and wear out. The belt runs the brush roll thousands of revolutions per minute, so the tighter or newer the belt, the better the vacuum performs.

• How often should I change my vacuum's bag or dust cup?

Generally, you should change your vacuum bag once a month and empty your dust cup when it is two-thirds full. We recommend more frequent bag changes if your home is large, if you have children and/or pets or if there is heavy foot traffic in your home. You should also change the bag more than once a month if you’re cleaning fine dust and debris, since both reduce the filtration through the bag. Change the bag immediately if the dirt is above the line printed on the bag. A bag change indicator is activated on some Electrolux models when the bag is full.
